The outbreak of COVID-19 worldwide has resulted in the temporary cancellation & suspension of many cultural & artistic events around the world. Our life as we know it came to a halt, and our attention has moved away from the physical space and into the digital realm.

In an effort to connect with & support the art community; many institutions around the world have offered online learning resources. Therefore, over the past few weeks Sahaba has contacted artists & art professionals from various artistic communities and asked them to share with it their selection of inspiring online content; including, e-books, journals, articles, magazines, virtual tours of exhibitions, films, online courses, or websites, which they will continue to share on their Instagram page over the upcoming weeks.

Species of Spaces

As we all practiced the act of social-distancing during Covid-19 pandemic; Sahaba decided to take their followers and art community on a journey of observation and appreciation of the spaces around us.

Species of Spaces & other Pieces: Spatial Exploration is an invitation to a collective act to pause and take our time to reflect on our immediate surroundings, including, the bedroom, the living room or the staircase.

Sahaba based their open call on Georges Perec’s Species of Spaces and used it as a guide to rediscover our surroundings and dig deeper into the familiarity of our personal spaces and belongings. Sahaba chose excerpts of the book for our followers to read, and create work in reaction to Perec’s observational approach in any artistic medium such as, photography, collage, text, or any other creative form they saw fit.
