A Fallen Petal

The petals don’t fall as they used to, Momma

I have grown

We have grown

You have wrinkles now,

You’ll have more

And I’ll grow bold,

Sad and ugly…

The streams gone dry

And the dogs gone die

And that smile

That smile will go as well

A girl has grown

Out of a womb,

Into life and out of purity again

She will walk free

She will walk alone

It’s the father that will walk along

Hail the old life into the new

Hail purity lost

Hail the machine

A tear has fallen

Out of what’s blue into what’s black

There it shall lie

Un-dry but lifeless

Too much to see in the black

For the blue has lost its power

Dive free my child

And may you dive unharmed.
