Artist Zara was inspired by Builtfromsketch and how some Arab households force hijab on girls once they have their first period when illustrating this work. She believes many families would pressure young girls by forcing them to cover their bodies with the abayas, their hair with tarhas, and their faces with niqabs without consideration of these girls’ choice. This, Zara believes, “affects the girls mentally all the way till they grow up. Tragically, all of this happens in the name of religion.”
