We’re thrilled to share Issue 23 with you, which includes artwork that discuss social double standards, gender, human thought, joy, and more. In Issue 23, we talked with researcher and curator Tara AlDugaither about oral history and folk music in Saudi. She shared with us the stories behind her recently-launched archive and platform, Sawt Asura, which aims to document and archive the musical history of Saudi women. We also reflect on our third Kan yama kan session with Dr. Afra Atiq, and everything we learned from her about poetry and spoken word performance. We want to conclude with announcing our collaboration with Huna and inviting you to submit to our upcoming General Issues.
We hope you enjoy Issue 23 as much we enjoyed working on it!
We recently had our third session of Kan yama kan with Dr. Afra Atiq, wherein we learned about the brilliance of poetry and spoken word. Learn more about the session here!
Huna x Ward: A Conversation with Khaled Alqahtani
We kicked off a new collaboration with Huna with a conversation with Ward’s founding editor-in-chief, Khaled Alqahtani. Read more about the conversation and collaboration here.
Submit to our upcoming issues!
We release two types of issues: General issues and themed issues. General issues are released monthly, and we accept submissions (literally) 24/7. Themed Issues are released every 3 months, and our upcoming themed issue is the Religion Issue.
General Issues
We believe that art does not come in one shape or medium. We invite all artists who are based in Saudi, regardless of age, nationality, or background, to submit to our General Issues. You’re welcome to submit your work anytime for our monthly general issues here.
