Kan yama kan #4: The Infinite Magic of Experimental Filmmaking

We love stories at Ward, and that’s why we started the Kan yama kan initiative in collaboration with Unootha. The main goal is to introduce everyone to new tools and media that they can use to tell their own stories.

Every month, we host a new guest who introduces us to their medium of interest. Our fourth guest in Kan ya ma kan is Al Reem Al Beshr. Al Reem is an Emirati writer and filmmaker studying film at NYU Abu Dhabi. Her art explores different themes and addresses different social issues through brilliant visuals.

In this session, Al Reem shared with us her journey with experimental filmmaking, from installing her first editing app on her iPod when she was a kid to producing and directing films for her current film classes. She also taught us the steps of the creative process she follows when making an experimental film from pre-production to pos-production.
