Issue 25

Cover art: Family by Sarah Alofaisan

Dear Reader,

We’re thrilled to share Issue 25 with you! We hope it brings you joy in such chaotic times.

The visuals featured in Issue 25 tackle different topics, ranging from the history of textiles of Saudi women’s clothing to what shapes and contributes to our humanity.

We talked with artist and writer Elham Dawsari about bodies, spaces, archives, and memories, and how each one of them shape the experiences of Saudi women.

We also invite you to submit to our upcoming themed issue, Family, which interrogates and dissects the varying structures of families, and how each one is shaped by our conditions and identities.

We hope you enjoy Issue 25 as much we enjoyed working on it!

Submit to our upcoming issues!

We release two types of issues: General issues and themed issues. General issues are released monthly, and we accept submissions (literally) 24/7. Themed Issues are released every 3 months, and our upcoming themed issue is the Religion Issue.

General Issues

We believe that art does not come in one shape or medium. We invite all artists who are based in Saudi, regardless of age, nationality, or background, to submit to our General Issues. You’re welcome to submit your work at anytime for our monthly general issues here.

Family Issue

How has your understanding of the concept of family evolve? How did it impact you and others around you? How did it shape your relationships and behaviors with yourself and others? How do you imagine what a family could look like in the future?

Submit your sketches, paintings, collages, photographs, journal entries, articles, videos, and anything in between by May 15, 2022 here.
